Jesus Is King
We often know Jesus as Lord, Savior, and Redeemer, but do we truly grasp what it means that He is King? This profound exploration challenges us to understand that Jesus isn't just a religious figure from history—He is currently seated at the right hand of the Father, ruling and reigning with all authority in heaven and on earth. Drawing from Matthew 6:33, we're reminded that the entire Bible is fundamentally about a king and His kingdom. When God created humanity in the Garden of Eden, He established what's called the dominion mandate—a purpose for us to reflect His rule throughout the earth. That mandate hasn't changed. The kingdom of heaven isn't just a distant future reality; it arrived when Jesus came. When He taught His disciples to pray 'Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,' He was inviting an immediate reality, not just a far-off hope. The question we must wrestle with is this: Is Jesus actually king over our lives, or have we placed something or someone else on that throne? Through the powerful imagery of the 'Checkmate' painting, we're reminded that even when circumstances seem hopeless, the King has one more move. Whether we're battling depression, loss, or despair, His kingdom has no end, and His reign continues beyond our earthly limitations. We are called to seek His kingdom first, trusting that when we do, everything else falls into place.
