Citizens of Heaven part 1

May 3, 2026    Vincent Townsend

This powerful message challenges us to reconsider where our true allegiance lies. Drawing from Philippians 3:20, we're reminded that while we physically live on earth, our citizenship is actually in heaven. The sermon uses the vivid illustration of passport control at international airports to help us understand that just as a passport determines our earthly citizenship and the rights that come with it, our spiritual rebirth determines our heavenly citizenship. The central question posed is profound: Are we eagerly awaiting a Savior from heaven, or are we so consumed with earthly concerns that we've forgotten our true home? The message traces back to the Garden of Eden, showing how humanity lost its immigration status in God's kingdom through disobedience, essentially trading our Father for a stepfather named Lucifer. But through Jesus Christ, we can reclaim our citizenship in heaven. This isn't just theological theory - it has practical implications for how we live today. When we truly grasp that we're representatives of heaven's kingdom here on earth, our conversations, priorities, and daily choices should reflect that reality. We're called to advance God's kingdom agenda right where we are, bringing heaven to earth rather than simply waiting for heaven to fall from the sky.
